What is Telehealth Occupational Therapy?
Ninja’s Telehealth occupational therapy service is professional, comprehensive allied health care delivered securely online through encrypted video consultations. From NDIS Functional Capacity Assessments and assistive technology recommendations to ongoing therapy sessions, we use evidence-based practice to target areas such as building long-term independence, emotional regulation, and functional daily living skills.
Instead of requiring you to commute to a physical clinic, you or your family member can access occupational therapy from the comfort of home or anywhere across Australia.
Who We Help
-
Our structured online early childhood support focuses on areas such as fine motor skills, gross motor skills, handwriting, sensory processing, developmental delay, self-care, self-regulation, and sleep as well as children facing eating, feeding, and mealtime challenges including ARFID. Telehealth shifts the dynamic from passive screen time to active, play-based engagement that helps kids, parents, teachers and support teams reach their goals.
-
We help you build confidence and independence in everyday tasks, from cooking, grooming and dressing to your morning routine. For some that means doing more on their own; for others, doing things more safely and comfortably with the right support or equipment. We work on self-care, living skills, physical capacity, assistive technology and community access, alongside your family, carers and support workers, so what we do in sessions carries into everyday life.
-
For older adults, we focus on staying safe, independent and connected as you age. We assess fall risks, recommend home modifications and assistive equipment, and build routines that keep daily tasks manageable. We can also help with memory changes, energy levels and getting out and about in the community, working with family members, carers and support workers so the strategies hold up between sessions.
How Does Telehealth Occupational Therapy Work?
Before your session, we will send you a unique, secure video link via SMS or email. No downloads, profile creations, or logins required. All you need is a smartphone, tablet, or computer with internet access.
Our team brings over 40 years of combined Telehealth experience. With no travel involved, sessions are easier to fit around work, school and caring responsibilities.
You can attend on your own or with anyone who supports you, such as a parent, carer, teacher or support worker. Every session includes education and coaching for the people around you, so everyone is working towards the same plan.

Support for All Disabilities & Diagnoses
-
Our autism support builds on what each person does well rather than normalising natural traits, with sessions shaped around their own interests, comfort and pace. We work on sensory regulation, daily routines, self-care, play and social connection, as well as the mealtime difficulties that often sit alongside sensory sensitivity.
-
Across inattentive, hyperactive-impulsive and combined type ADHD, we help with impulsivity and emotional regulation, so big feelings and quick reactions get in the way less. We also build practical systems for attention, organisation, sleep and moving between tasks, from routines and task breakdown to checklists, timers, sensory diets and digital prompts.
-
Every child develops at their own pace, and milestones are a guide for noticing when extra support might help. If your child is doing things differently or later than others, it’s worth understanding sooner, as early support tends to go further than waiting and seeing. You don’t need a diagnosis or referral to ask, and a developmental assessment can give you a clear picture of where your child is at.
-
Depression and anxiety change what you can do day to day, and occupational therapy helps you keep doing what’s meaningful, from work and parenting to seeing friends. We look at your occupational balance, often starting with routine, sleep and activity, then build from the parts of your day that are still working. The aim is a week that feels like yours again.
-
Memory aids, structured routines, simple prompts and visual cues make a real difference to how long someone can keep living well and safely at home. We set up checklists, calendars and medication reminders alongside family and carers, then pair them with a home safety review so the environment is doing some of the work too.
-
Including stroke, acquired brain injury and progressive neurological conditions. We build strategies for memory, planning and fatigue, keep up self-care and the activities you enjoy, and bring in equipment or assistive technology as your needs change. Support can also cover returning to work, study, driving or running a household.
-
We also support people with physical disability (including cerebral palsy), intellectual disability, vision and hearing impairment, genetic conditions and rare syndromes, chronic pain and fatigue, as well as those recovering from injury or surgery and children through early intervention. These are just some of the conditions we work with. Not sure if we can help?
What We Work On
-
Handwriting, scissors, buttons and cutlery all draw on the same underlying strength, coordination and control. We assess which of those is the sticking point and work on it directly, through targeted practice, grip and posture adjustments.
-
When sights, sounds, textures or movement become overwhelming, dressing, eating, sleeping and getting through the school or work day all get harder. We map what sets it off and what settles it, then build a sensory plan the whole household can follow.
-
Mealtime difficulties, including ARFID and extreme selective eating, are rarely about fussiness. We work on the sensory, motor and routine factors underlying it, widening the range of accepted foods gradually and making mealtimes less stressful for the whole family.
-
Showering, dressing, cooking, cleaning and running a household are the tasks independence is built on. We break each one down to find where it actually falls apart, then rebuild it with practice, adapted techniques, or a piece of equipment.
-
Everyone has the right to understand their body, make their own choices and feel safe in their relationships. Our disability sex education covers friendships, dating, consent, personal safety, body changes and the practical side of intimacy, with camera-off or messaging sessions if that’s easier.
-
From sleep routines and organisation to returning to work or study, home modifications, assistive technology and NDIS, insurance and medico-legal assessments, these are just some of the areas we work on. If it’s getting in the way of everyday life, give us a call and we’ll talk it through.

What are the Benefits of Telehealth Occupational Therapy?
No Waitlists
Begin treatment within two weeks instead of joining a long month local waitlist or waiting for an occupational therapist to have space in your area.
Treatment from Home
Sessions happen at home, where most people feel comfortable raising topics like intimacy, puberty or periods, with the camera off or over messaging if that helps.
Budget Efficiency
Telehealth sessions are charged at the same rate as face-to-face care and eliminate travel fees that dilute regional in-person plans by up to 50%, ensuring every dollar goes directly to clinical hours.
Flexible Scheduling
Finding time for occupational therapy around family, school or work commitments is hard enough without the travel. Our online service removes that pressure.
Clinician Matching
Our suitability process matches you nationally with an Ahpra-registered occupational therapist experienced in your area of need and suited to your personality.
Uninterrupted Care
Sessions continue through school holidays, bad weather, illness, or an interstate move. Your therapy plan doesn’t depend on being able to get to a clinic that week.

Why Choose Ninja Allied Health for Telehealth Occupational Therapy?
Independence looks different for every person, and how someone manages their day is part of who they are. Ninja Allied Health is a proudly neuro-affirming and strengths-based practice. We do not seek to “fix” or “normalise” the way a person does things; instead, we co-design practical tools that align with their interests, comfort, and abilities. We work within a trauma-informed framework, so sessions stay predictable, transparent, and collaborative.
Our mission is simple: high-quality, accessible therapy without the wait.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
For most goals, yes. If you’re unsure whether Telehealth suits you or your goals, give us a bell and we’d be happy to explore it with you. Telehealth also makes therapy easier to fit around work, school or caring responsibilities, with no travel, shorter wait times and less fatigue from getting to appointments.
-
It depends on where you're starting and what you're working towards. Some things, like education and advice, help straight away, while others take more time. Your therapist will talk this through with you. For assistive technology and home modifications, it's less about therapy taking effect and more about solving a practical problem.
-
Usually no, unless you’re claiming through Medicare or DVA. Depending on who is funding your care, a referral may help. Call us and we’ll help you work out your options.
-
A smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer with internet access. We send a secure video link by SMS or email before your session, and there are no downloads, logins or profiles to set up.
-
Yes. Medicare rebates are available for Telehealth occupational therapy, by video or phone, as long as you have a referral. For most people, that’s a care plan from your GP. For children with autism or a diagnosed disability, it’s a treatment plan from a paediatrician or psychiatrist. Medicare covers part of the fee, so there’s usually a gap to pay. Not sure which referral applies to you? Ask your GP, or give us a call.
-
Yes. The NDIS funds occupational therapy delivered by Telehealth in the same way it funds in-person sessions. It comes out of the Improved Daily Living part of your Capacity Building budget, and the price limit is the same as for a face-to-face session, with no travel charges, so it often makes a plan go further.
-
Yes. DVA Gold and White Card holders pay no gap under standard DVA allied health funding. You’ll need a referral from your GP, and if you meet certain criteria, your entire course of therapy may be delivered via Telehealth.
