What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational therapy helps people build the skills they need for everyday life, from getting dressed and cooking, to managing sensory challenges, chronic pain or the demands of school and work.
An occupational therapist looks at what's making daily tasks harder, then works with you to build practical, lasting strategies so you can do more with greater independence and confidence.
At Ninja Allied Health, our registered Brisbane occupational therapists come to you, and see clients at our clinics in Ipswich, Springfield Lakes and Redlands, using evidence-based practice. NDIS, private and DVA clients welcome.

Who We Help
-
We support children across areas such as fine and gross motor skills, handwriting, sensory processing, developmental delay, self-care, self-regulation and sleep, as well as eating, feeding and mealtime challenges including ARFID. Sessions are play-based, and we work closely with parents, teachers and the wider support team so the strategies carry over at home and school.
-
We help you build independence in the everyday tasks that matter to you, whether that means doing more on your own or doing things more safely with the right support or equipment. Sessions cover daily living skills such as self-care, as well as physical capacity, assistive technology and community access, and we bring in your family, carers and support workers so progress carries over at home.
-
For older adults, we focus on staying safe, independent and connected for longer. That can mean reducing the risk of falls, recommending home modifications and equipment, setting up routines for daily tasks, and supporting memory, energy and community outings. Family members, carers and support workers are welcome to be part of sessions, so the strategies keep working at home.

What We Help With
Some of the areas we support most often include:
-
We help you build confidence and independence in the everyday tasks that matter most, from cooking, grooming and dressing to organising your morning routine. We break each activity into manageable steps and practise them with you, so you can look after yourself safely and with confidence.
-
We look at what’s making everyday tasks harder at home and recommend practical changes, such as home modifications and assistive equipment, so you can get around and manage daily life more safely. We work with you to choose what suits, and liaise with builders, suppliers and funders so you get solutions that fit your life.
-
When sights, sounds or sensations become overwhelming, or emotions run high, everyday tasks can feel impossible. We use evidence-based sensory strategies to help with regulation, and over time help you recognise what sets it off and build tools that bring back calm and focus at home, school or work.
-
Need an objective evaluation of what you can do, and what you may need? Our occupational therapists conduct thorough, face-to-face assessments in clinic or at home. We then provide clear, detailed reports (suitable for insurers, NDIS applications/reassessments, employers or legal purposes) outlining your current abilities, recommended supports and realistic goals for progression.
-
Ongoing pain or fatigue can make everyday tasks, work and getting out harder. We help you build physical capacity at a level you can keep up, find easier ways to manage self-care and household tasks, and identify equipment or assistive technology that saves energy for the things that matter to you.
-
Struggling to plan, remember or prioritise tasks? We help you set up clear, structured routines and practical aids like checklists, calendars and digital prompts. Whether it’s managing medication, keeping track of appointments or juggling multiple roles, we build strategies that strengthen your organisation and planning.
-
Everyone deserves to understand their body, make their own choices and feel safe with the people around them. Our disability sex education sessions cover friendships, dating, consent, personal safety, body changes and the practical side of intimacy, delivered privately and respectfully, at home or in clinic.

How Does Occupational Therapy Work Across Brisbane?
To get started, book a free discovery call or send through a referral, and our team will talk through your goals and find a time that suits.
With mobile visits, your therapist comes to your home across Brisbane, so you can practise skills in the space where you use them every day.

You can attend on your own or with anyone who supports you, such as a parent, carer, support worker or family member. Every session includes education and coaching for the people around you, so everyone is working towards the same plan.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Occupational therapy is for people of all ages and abilities. We work across every type of disability and diagnosis, including developmental delay, autism, ADHD, psychosocial disability, chronic pain, injury and age-related changes.
-
It depends on where you’re starting and what you’re working towards. Some things, like education and advice, help straight away, while others take more time. Your therapist will talk this through with you. Assistive technology and home modifications are different again: rather than waiting for therapy to take effect, you’re solving a practical problem.
-
Usually no. Depending on who is funding your care, a referral may help. Call us and we’ll help you work out your options.
-
Your therapist works alongside you, using hands-on practice, real equipment and assessment tools to build skills and adjust strategies on the spot.
-
Yes, with a referral. Most people use a care plan from their GP, while children with autism or a diagnosed disability can use a treatment plan from a paediatrician or psychiatrist. Medicare covers part of each session, so there’s usually a gap to pay. Not sure which referral you need? Ask your GP, or give us a call.
-
Yes. Occupational therapy, whether mobile, in clinic or via Telehealth, can be funded through the Improved Daily Living part of your NDIS Capacity Building budget. Not sure what your plan covers? Give us a call and we’ll help you work it out.
-
Yes. With a referral from your GP, DVA Gold and White Card holders pay no gap for occupational therapy, under standard DVA allied health funding.
